Hello,
are you aware of the fact that after a mailing by the Swiss Federal Police
(the letter can be found in the ch.comp
newsgroup with message-id , in German) to all
Swiss ISPs, many of them block www.webcom.com on the router-level?
The mailing asked the ISPs to block a number of sites with Nazi propaganda
(the distribution of which is a crime in Switzerland). The Federal Police
threatend the ISPs to take legal action against them should they not
comply, claiming they would be guilty of helping the spread of the illegal
propaganda. To me, their legal base seems to be rather weak. However, many
ISPs have complied, including backbone provider Unisource
(apparently without telling their ISP customers
about it) and Bluewindow, Switzerland's largest ISP
. One of the sites on the list was
. Obviously, this directory cannot be
easily filtered out. Therefore, these providers have blocked all traffic
going and coming from www.webcom.com on the router level. For most Swiss
users of the Internet, www.webcom.com is not available at this time.
I suggest you take action by protesting against this to the Federal Police
and to Unisource and Bluewindow. This block against you and your innocent
customers is not acceptable. While I completely agree that Nazi propaganda
should be fought and banned, this i not the way to go.
